Rome, from 26 to 27 July 2023, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Vo Van Thuong, participated in an official visit to the Italian Republic, at the invitation of the president of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella.
This is the first official meeting between the heads of state of the two countries after seven years. The meeting was fundamental for the promotion of political trust and the strengthening of the Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Italy. The meeting of the two heads of state took place during the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations (1973-2023) and the tenth anniversary of the start of the Strategic Partnership. The visit reaffirms the great friendship that exists between Vietnam and Italy and their collaboration in all aspects.
The meeting was followed by a ceremony for the exchange of two agreements signed during President Thuong's state visit: a Treaty on Judicial Assistance in Criminal Matters and an Executive Program of Cultural Collaboration.
